Before progressing to the resolution stage, lets consider what leads up to this point:
THE CONFLICT PROCESS
|
In finding a resolution, understanding the problem is the first step. The second step is the resolution. Good communication can often achieve this. For example, a conflict between two people with seemingly different needs may in fact simply be caused by misunderstood communication. In this case, talking about the differences of opinion may resolve the problem. In more complex situations, other solutions may be required.
Authority
Always bear in mind that authoritatively imposing a solution is not always an effective way to get a solution. The people involved usually know what is best for them and won't respond to other suggestions forced on them.
Cull unacceptable solutions
The next step is to eliminate what is not acceptable so you can narrow in on what will be acceptable.
Proposals
Once a solution is under consideration, it should be proposed to all parties in order for them to consider the ramifications of it.
Final step
The final step is to decide:
How it
will be done
Who is
doing what
When it
will be done
It is also important to acknowledge everyone involved for their cooperation and participation. A simple thank you often is sufficient. Dealing with conflict can be coonfronting, and knowing someone else realises this and values your contributions certainly helps.
Please go to the activity link here and complete the table you were shown at the start of this module. Having gone through two elements it is expected that your answers now may differ from when you started this module.
In this element we have looked at strategies to resolve conflict as well as how we should reach conflict resolution. Having done this, you are ready to undertake your second exam on this module. Click here to access this exam. Your teacher will advise you on how to access this.
